I have a situation lately. The symptom is that for many operations in
Entourage X, I get lots of disk activity: switching folders, reading a
message, sending a message, even manually running an Applescript.

I've used DiskWarrior to defrag my hard drive. This doesn't really seem to
affect the problem. Rebuilding the Entourage database *does* seem to help,
but for only a limited amount of time. I don't really have a large number of
messages stored (my database is currently around 30 MB).

Any suggestions? (Sorry if this has been discussed and I've missed it)

OS X 10.1.5
PowerBook/667 (768 MB)
40 GB drive (3 partitions, OS X gets 20 GB)
