I am using Entourage 2001 on an iBook running Mac OS 9.2.2. Recently, for no apparent reason, I have begun having strange problems with MS Word and Excel documents attached to incoming email. The document files are tagged as applications, and the only way I can open them is from within the application (both Word and Excel) using "all documents" -- they don't show up as Word or Excel documents since they are getting tagged as applications.
When I double-click on the file icon, I get an error message saying, "the application program "[file name]" could not be opened, because it might be damaged or it might not work on this type of computer." This happens in Word and Excel. Once I get the file open it appears to be OK, and I can usually save it without trouble.
