(Entourage for X, Mac OS 10.2.4, Dual 1 GHz G4) I've discovered some real oddities attempting to move my addresses from Palm Desktop to Entourage (to show what a glutton for punishment I am, my REAL goal is to have my contact, calendar, task, and note data in a format that I can synchronize between Mac and iPAQ using PocketMac Pro, which I have managed to get working, although it's not seamless).
If I drag a contact from Palm Desktop's list view to Entourage's List View, the FIRST contact I drag is added to the Entourage database. Subsequent contacts dragged from Palm Desktop to Entourage make the border of the list view window in Entourage X highlight as though the drag/drop was successful, but the contact isn't added. However, if I drag a contacts one at a time from Palm Desktop to the Finder desktop, then from there to the Entourage list view window, the contacts all appear to survive the trip (although category assignments don't transfer). Have I discovered a bug, or is this "first drag only" problem indicative of database corruption? Unless there's a better way, I'll be dragging well over 500 addresses, one at a time, between the two programs. I know that I'm supposed to be able to do it by exporting a text file from Palm Desktop, but I'm worried about telephone numbers not appearing with their proper labels, and for some reason the categories don't transfer. Anyone have a better way? (see my earlier message about Entourage's direct import routine not working). I'd especially be interested in some way to automate the transfer of category assignments.
