Just curious? Does HIPPA also require that the patient's email to you be
encrypted? Or, only your email to the patient.

I would think that installing and learning to use PGP encryption software
could be a high barrier to entry for many patients to use email to
communicate with you.

I wonder if there aren't some web based options that rely on browser
encryption. Everyone who can send email can use a browser.

Of course, if only your messages need to be encrypted, and your email volume
is low, the a low-tech way would be to attach a password protected Word or
Acrobat file.

Here's my real question. Not picking on you. Asking a general question. I
see similar notices from big corporations, and frankly find them a bit
presumptuous. I've always assumed that since these notices don't cite a
regulation, they're simply legal posturing in case there's a law suit some
day. So, what's the real scoop? Is there a law that really prevents me from
forwarding such emails? :-)
