I use so many scripts, it is hard to pick just a few favorites. I'm just
going to list them in random order. Most are available on macscripter.net or
(my own) on my web page (below), but not all. Some are individualized for my
own use and have not been posted (yet). I'll try to indicate these in the
list; if others are interested, write me at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
1. !MySaveAttachments -- A script I morphed out of an earlier version of
"Claris It", which did other things beside save attachments. It saves a list
of favorite destination folders for saving things, and pops that up; it
records the path of the saved file(s) in the message. That leads to the two
following scripts:
* Open file of selected spec -- Select a file path in a message, this
script will open the file in its owner application.
* Open folder of selected spec -- Select a file path in a message, this
script will open the folder that contains it in the Finder and highlight the
file.
2. Related to the above: scripts to open specific folders in the Finder:
Saved Attachments, Entourage Script Menu Items, and Microsoft User Data.
3. Open Script in Script Debugger, a script by Barry Wainwright (his used
Script Editor or Smile; I substituted the Script Debugger application).
Select a script sent in an e-mail message, opens a new script window in the
editor and attempts to compile it, adding a comment at the top indicating
the sender as source of the script.
4. Shortcuts scripts. I use MANY scripts with associated shortcut keys
specified in the file suffix, as described in Entourage Help. So I have a
series of scripts that deal with script shortcuts and help me keep track of
them:
* Shortcut chart. Produces a draft message listing all assigned
shortcuts in order by the key, with the name of the associated script, in a
neat table saved as a draft message.
* Shortcut Lookup. Locates what script is assigned to a particular
shortcut.
* Set New Shortcut for Scriptfile. Lets you select a script from the
scripts folder, accepts a new shortcut for it, verifies that no other script
is using that shortcut, and then assigns it to the script by modifying the
script's filename.
5. Find Contact Plus v3. Type in a contact name or e-mail address; opens the
contact record.
6. Add Sender to Group. Does what the name says. Presents a list of existing
groups. (does not yet let you create a new group; plan to add that.)
7. Insert Contact Info v4. Given the name of a contact, presents a list of
the contacts main fields that contain data, lets you select one or more
fields and then inserts that information in the current draft message.
8. Delete Imported Duplicates, by Paul Berkowitz. Deletes duplicate messages
within a folder. I don't use it often, but when I need it I'm glad I have
it.
9. Strip HTML. The best one-line script around. Turns HTML messages into
plain text.
10. Keep Only Selected Text. Select info you want to keep; run the script,
everything else gets deleted. Great way to get rid of ads, long sigs, etc.
11. Modify Subject. Quick way to edit subject of incoming messages.
12. Strip [*] from subject. Strips out prefixes often assigned by some
mailing lists, such as [FAVORITEGROUP]. Lets messages sort properly into
threads.
13. Text Clipping series: Save Text, Insert Text, Search Saved Text, Edit
Saved Text, Reveal Text File in Finder. Saves selected part or all of a
message as plain text files in one of a series of Finder folders (created on
the fly by the scripts) set up to contain categorized clippings. Handles
subfolders to any level. Allows you to append data to existing files. The
search script uses "grep" to locate text in files faster than you'd believe
possible. Use just to save info, or for templates and boilerplate text you
need to insert frequently. (I hope to release this package soon, but it
isn't yet properly documented. It will be shareware for a very modest fee.)
14. [Extract] Message from Digest. Select a message in a digest, run script
to create an individual incoming message with reply-to set to the list if
you wish.
15. File Messages in Folder. Moves one or more messages to a folder.
Presents list of all your folders, sorted by name (including parent
folders), allows you to jump to desired folder by typing first few
characters. (If you are used to using Cmd-Shift-M and typing the folder name
to move messages, you probably don't need this; but I still use it a lot.)
16. Open Enclosing Folder. Useful when viewing messages in custom views, and
you want to see other messages in the same folder as the one you are
viewing. Opens the container folder in a separate window.
17. Toggle Flag. A silly-simple script, but I like using Control-F to toggle
the "flag" on or off, rather than clicking the icon.
18. Show Local Time. Display the time zone of the sender of an incoming
message, and the local time at which it was sent. Optionally insert into
message. (Informs you of part of the world the sender lives in.)
19. Reply scripts that alter normal behavior. Reply in Digest to List lets
you select a message in a digest and generate a reply to that message
addressed to the list; Reply in Digest to Sender does as named. Reply to
>From overrides a "reply-to" header to direct the reply to the sender of the
message.
20. Dumb calculator. Type simple math like (28 * 7) / 8, select it and run
the script; the answer is placed on the clipboard. In this case: 24.5.
21. I use numerous navigation scripts: Display one of the five default
folder (Inbox, Outbox,Sent Items, Drafts, Deleted Items) which I have
assigned to Ctrl-Option plus A, B, C, D, and E; scripts to open one of
several favorite custom views, or a script to open any mail custom view by
name from a list; one to open a folder by name from a popup list.
