You're exactly right.

I first wanted to explore how mature Bluetooth was.  Then, if it looked like
something I'd use (and was easy to use!), I'd explore what cell phone
companies utilize it.

I'm currently with U.S. Cellular, and the don't even offer Sony/Ericsson
phones.
