I had forgotten about that feature.  But it's only a partial solution to my
gripe.  I don't see how the popup menus can be used to add another column.
And the functionality of the popups is hidden (that's why I forgot about
it).

This issue is probably not a big deal for most users.  But I have a lot of
folders, and I've also had to do quite a few advanced DB rebuilds.  After
each of those rebuilds, I had to go in and tediously reset my column prefs.
It would be nice if these prefs could be made persistent across DB rebuilds.
