To Paul & others from the earlier thread.
After I posted, I saw the thread started by Susan. Her problems were exactly like mine and in reading the thread, I followed Paul's detailed steps. Did same, but deleted not only the suspected problem message but all spam. Problem solved. Did have a hickup in that I needed to go back into accounts/options and change the online status, but after I did that, my mail downloaded and all is well.
Thanks to Susan for having the problem and to all who suggested methods to fix.
Paul, you ideas are so cool.
