Well, in the first place, he told you how he did it: with Menu Master. (I don't recommend Menu Master; I've found that it goes bonkers when you try to set a shortcut for a script in the script menu, at least in mine with over 400 scripts in it. It ends up assigning the same shortcut to four or five menu commands.)
Another option that lets you assign keyboard shortcuts is free: System Preferences, Mouse and Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts. You must know the exact text of the menu item you want to assign. Scroll to the bottom, click "+" to add a new shortcut.
