Title: Re: Where should I send a bug is Word 2004
Hi Bruce,

You can send this information to MS using the Send Feedback feature on the Word Help menu.

To determine whether or not this is an anomaly, you might want to have a Word X user (I'm assuming you no longer have it on your own computer) send you a simple document containing a .jpg to test with.

I received my copy of O ‘04 earlier today, and so far I’ve been very pleased with the many improvements and enhancements I’ve been able to discover. Unfortunately, I’ve also discovered a reproducible bug in Word ‘04 that could lead to loss of data.

I have a document with a picture that was inserted from a .jpg file. It opens perfectly in Word X, which I have not yet uninstalled. But the picture is badly corrupted when opened in Word ‘04. If I cut and past the picture from Word X into Word ‘04, it again appears corrupted. If I remove the picture in Word ‘04 and go through the process of inserting the picture from the original .jpg file into the document, the picture then appears fine.

I have to conclude that a document that opens well in Word X does not open properly in Word ‘04. My concern is that while I hade the original .jpg file with which to fix this document, there may be other documents with inserted pictures that will fail to display properly, resulting in permanent loss of that data (if Word X has been uninstalled).

Is there some place at the Mac BU where I could send this file to be examined? I’m hoping that it’s a one-time fluke and that some subtle corruption might be discovered, but there was really nothing unusual about the way the original doc was created to make me think that this is the case.
