This is now getting off topic, but your sister - and anyone - can use Mac
fully and still let the kids use it. That's what multi-user is about. Here
is a quick set of instructions off the top of my head. Others may have ideas
to add to it.

Go to System Prefs -> Accounts. Click the + to create a new user. Name it
Kids or such. Under Security, do not check Allow user to administer this
computer. In the Password tab leave the password blank so they don't need
one. Click Limitations. Choose what the kids can see - or not.

At the bottom of the Accounts list, click Login Options and decide on
options there. If she checks fast user switching she can turn the Mac over
to the kids easier, and get right back to her stuff which remains running.
The kids won't be able to get back to her stuff unless they know and type
her password.

For extra kid protection, switch to Security and check the option to require
a password to wake the computer. Optionally check the Log out after x
minutes option. Switch to Desktop & Screen Saver and set the screen saver to
a short amount. This way the kids can't use her account if she leaves the
Mac unattended.

I was about to joke that the old iMac is a better protection again the kids
+ food/drink combo if she *really* wants to be safe, and perhaps it is. But
another option for kids protection is the iSkin on the keyboard. Good
product and very nice people. See <http://iskin.com/protouch_PB1.html>
