If you turn it off in the global Entourage prefs (prefs; 'notifications';
uncheck 'display alert on desktop'), you can set a mail rule to display one
for any non-routine mail. Given that rules fire AFTER the MLM has done it's
stuff, you can set the first rule to say:

If [Is not from a mailing list]
Then [Display Notification]
