Title: An unintended consequence of using Office X and Office '04 on the same machine
I just read the following item on MacFixit and realized I had just started to experience the same issue.

Office notifications Victor Ortiz reports an issue where Office 2004 requires two dismissals for notifications:

"After installing Microsoft Office 2004 I noticed an unusual behavior with the office notification application. As notifications appear and I either check the checkbox for complete (if it’s a task), or dismiss it, or set a snooze on the reminder, I have to respond to the same reminder twice before it accepts my response. At first I thought it was just a glitch, but it appears as though it is occurring with every reminder I receive now."

A check of my accounts showed that two database daemons for both Office X and Office 2004 were listed as startup items (login items). A check of the Activity monitor confirmed that both were running.

This apparently happened when I needed to open Word X after a file could not be opened in Word ‘04. Opening Word X must place the startup item (login item) into my account. My problem was resolved after quitting the Office X daemon, but a logout and re-login after removing the older item from my Account in System Preferences would also work just fine.

Any E’04 users who have also run any Office VX program after installing O’04 could also experience this problem.
