A "haxie" is a 3rd-party utility that tinkers with the OS (usually by a
"hack", hence the name), usually to get it to behave in some non-standard
way. (About half of them still seem to want to replicate some behavior from
OS 9 that people can't let go of in OS X.)

JXB has already said said he has installed no haxies whatsoever, so let's
rule that out for the moment.

You would test for font interactions by removing all fonts from
~/Library/Fonts/ and /Library/Fonts/ and asking the people seeing the HTML
problem to log out, log in, launch Entourage, check Accounts to see they're
OK to begin with, and start reading HTML messages again. If there's still a
problem, you can rule out fonts as the source of it. If there's no problem,
start putting fonts back a few at a time until the problem recurs, then
remove all but one of the most-recently-added-fonts, log out, in, etc. and
add the latest fonts in one by one until you pinpoint which one is the
problem. Isn't that how Mac Support Professionals would do it?

PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - **2004**, X
or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions otherwise.
