Bill, you can use Edit Custom Arrangements (under the Arrange By: drop-down menu) to do close to this. After making your grouping and sorting decisions set the "Default display for groups" to Collapsed. This way all your groups will be collapsed when you jump into a folder set to this Custom Arrangement.
