I think I've never known anyone who did not want to save a copy of _anything_ they sent out, which is what turning the option off should do. (If turning it off still results in saved messages, I guess that's a bug and should be reported to Microsoft.) You could set up a schedule to delete messages from the Sent Items folder. Try setting it to "older than 0 days". I think it will allow that. If not, you'd have to live with "older than 1 day".
