Automatic schedules are handy, but they aren't the solution to every
situation. What if I'm about to leave for a meeting and want to quickly
check for email while I'm finishing up something else? What if I want to
make sure I've sent all messages before I put my PowerBook to sleep? What if
I just got off the phone with a colleague who said she's sending me an
urgent document and I want to check email frequently while I continue to
work in another application? There are many reasons why one might want to
check manually; individually, they may not account for a large amount of
time or a major inconvenience, but using Entourage on a daily basis they do

(The answer is not for everyone to set Entourage to check email every
minute. Besides being incredibly distracting, I have about a dozen different
email accounts, and some of them will lock you out if you check mail too
frequently.)

Everyone has different needs, and everyone works in different ways. That
being said, I've talked to many people who check for mail manually often
enough that they want Entourage's Dock menu to provide that functionality. I
consider it a minor request, given how easy Apple has made it to provide
such functionality via the Dock.
