The price, and the fact that ST edition does not (normally) qualify for a future upgrade - you have to buy the whole thing again. If you are still a student or teacher when upgrade time comes around, this is not a problem - the ST price is cheaper than the upgrade! If you no longer qualify for ST then you need to pay full price.
If you don't upgrade you can continue using the ST edition as long as you like, even after you no longer qualify to buy it.
