What little I could glean from looking at the brief message extracts visible in the Entourage Archive's search results (still getting 404 error when attempting to access full message) seemed to suggest that when an HTML mail is open in Entourage, it gets very, very hungry.
Sho'nuff, I found an open HTML message window lurking behind the main Mail window, and closing it has damped down Entourage's appetite somewhat (CPU usage hovering in the 1.5 to 4% range as I type... instead of the 80% spikes I was seeing before). So, problem identified, if not actually solved. All this with Entourage X 10.1.6. Is the 2004 version any better behaved?
