Having been through the various hoops, I would spend some money and avoid Palm Desktop for three reasons: i. It is a poorly written application, spreading files all over the hard drive and more or less completely ignoring the Mac OS X user interface guidelines; ii. The datebook, address book etc. it offers are largely ignorant of what Mac OS X is doing - you cannot get data out of them automatically; iii. Bitrot will eventually set in because Palm Desktop is no longer being maintained; by contrast the Mark/Space mailing lists are very lively. What I did, with an almost identical setup, was to buy The Missing Sync (www.markspace.com) and then use the Entourage 2004 conduit, which works perfectly and makes address book, calendar, tasks and memos available in Entourage without any difficulty. (That conduit could also be used with Palm Desktop, but The Missing Sync is so much better written in general I suspect that the conduit operation is likely to be smoother). The great power of Entourage is that there are a lot of AppleScripts available which allow further automation. For example, Paul Berkowitz has produced some excellent work which, inter alia, synchronises Entourage information with the Apple Address Book and iCal: http://homepage.mac.com/berkowit28/FileSharing.html The Missing Sync also provides, among other things, integration with iTunes and iPhoto, and allows any SD card to be mounted (via the USB connection) on the desktop. Two of those functions are not provided by Palm Desktop and the third (iPhoto handling) is awkward.
