Seasons Greetings

I was called in by a client early this morning as his Entourage X (10.1.6
update recently added/was 10.0) was not opening. It gave him the option to
rebuild which he attempted. Very quickly came back with 'Unknown Error
4361' and an offer to attempt a more complex rebuild which resulted in the
same error message.

I found this in my old E'rage lists-

>> A co-worker is unable to open Entourage X, or perform either a typical or
>> advanced rebuild. I've been trying every suggestion I've found without luck:
>>
>> - trashed all related preferences
>> - created a new identity and dropped in damaged database/cache
>> - installed Entourage 2004 and tried importing from the X version
>> - tried EntourAid and Emailchemy
>> - ran DiskWarrior
>>
>> The error still persists, and the last "Old Database" he has is from April.
>> Is there anything else left to try, any new possible solutions? It doesn't
>> seem like anyone has a dependable solution (or perhaps "dependable" depends
>> of the severity of the damage?).
>>
>> Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This particular customer has stitched up the links between Contacts,
Calendar, Notes and Tasks to the Nth degree and I'd rather not lose them and
no, despite several 'strongly put' suggestions from me, he has resolutely
refused to do a backup due to 'lack of time'. Well, now he's seen two years
work go down the tubes so maybe he'll leave being arrogant to me as he
should do ;-)

I tried a new Identity and importing- no luck.

I tried moving the corrupt Identity to a different computer running 2004- It
said it had imported but everything was empty including the account details.

I tried importing everything separately- no luck.

The three questions I would like answered are-

1) How the heck can a database suddenly 'die' without warning ? The
computer is checked every 2 weeks (by me) by repairing Permissions and also
to see if a run of DiskWarrior is required. Is this usual with E'Rage X, or
should I expect it in 2004 too ?

2) Diane says above to try and import into another Mail program- any
suggestions/gotcha's ?

3) Is there anybody who has had this problem that knows an answer/part
answer ?

Whilst I don't feel a lot of sympathy for this guy, it IS a lot of work to
lose and besides, I might have to use the solution (if there is one) again
for someone who is not a complete prat.

Many thanks in anticipation.
