I'm exactly the same way. My brain seems to ignore flags but instantly zeroes in on unread messages. I do the same thing as you � mark the messages as unread. It seems to me that in Entourage 2001, the last-selected message didn't automatically open in the Preview Pane so that it remained unread. Same thing when reading newsgroup posts. I too don't like the way Entourage 2004 handles this.
