I've been struggling with getting many many downloads of the same message. I don't know whether my situation is the same as that of others with a similar problem, but if it is, I wonder if anyone has solved it? I'm using Entourage 2004 (About says Version 11.1.0 (040913) and Comcast cable internet. After starting out thinking the problem was with Entourage, I changed my mind and decided it might be with Comcast - sometimes I would have Entourage delete everything from the server, then check using webmail to make sure everything was gone, and *still* get some of the deleted messages again the next day or two. But sometimes when I'd go to check, even though Entourage claimed that messages were not on the server (I have "allow online access" checked and would look at the Comcast "folder" before going to webmail), they'd actually still be there. It seems to me that the former behavior has to be something wrong with Comcast and the latter has to be something wrong with how E'rage is interacting with Comcast.
A few days ago, I decided to attack this problem again (I'd previously talked to Microsoft at length, tried everything anyone here had to suggest - I even thought I'd solved it, but that was just the computer teasing me, a few days later it started over again). I emailed Comcast, and after they sent me a series of form letters dealing with problems other than mine, they eventually got to the real problem and told me that I needed to get to a situation where I had duplicate messages on the server and telephone them (I had sent them copies of the data I had on two identical messages from "view source" that showed that the messages had allegedly been received by two different comcast servers, although they had the same message ID; but unfortunately I had deleted those messages from the server) So I let duplicates pile up and phoned. Unfortunately, there weren't actually any duplicate copies of messages on the *server* only on my computer (I had thought there were because one email got sent to me twice). After informing me that Entourage is not supported by Comcast, only Outlook Express for Mac and Mac Mail <GRRR>, the support person suggested that something was wrong in the way Entourage was interacting with there server. I was almost willing to accept that until he followed up, after agreeing to make a note of the data about a specific email that I had received 3 times that day, so that I could then delete everything from the server, using webmail, and call them again if (IMHO it was going to be when) the email reappeared by saying "of course, you won't open Entourage in the meantime." I said that webmail was not an acceptable way for me to deal with email, so I needed Entourage, and what harm was he suggesting might happen? His answer to that at least provided a little humor in the midst of my frustration - maybe Entourage would "upload" the deleted email to the server!! Somehow I managed to restrain my laughter and convince him that was absurd, and he allowed as how I could continue to use Entourage until the message reappeared if it did. Of course, it hasn't yet. I suppose it never will. Meanwhile, a bunch of messages I got this afternoon have arrived 3 times. And for my new problem (maybe related, maybe not). I download only the first 10K of messages. When I get an incomplete message and try to reply to it, Entourage goes and downloads the rest of the message before opening it in the "reply" window. That's fine. But a few days ago it started messing up, seriously. When I selected an incomplete message and clicked on "reply," the new email window would open with a reply to the *next* message in my Inbox, not the one I had selected. And worst of all, the one I'd selected would have disappeared, apparently for good! This happened while I was saving all the messages that arrived a second time, and I noticed that the message that had been substituted for the incomplete one had been marked with the category from the incomplete message, even though the sender of the second message wasn't in the same category. Thanks to the duplicate bug (er, feature in this case) the incomplete message arrived later in the day, along with a second copy of the message that had been substituted for it, this time correctly categorized. I have really run out of ideas on this one. I've gotten very good at deleting a bunch of messages that arrive on Wednesday with Tuesday "sent" dates, but it's frustrating and I'm afraid that sometimes I'm deleting messages I haven't yet read because they managed to arrive with a bunch of messages I know I have read. Usually the duplicates don't come until I've deleted the originals and emptied the deleted items folder. Once in a while though... Does anyone have any new ideas? I really don't want to give up on leaving messages on the server, since it seems to me to be a good security blanket, but if this doesn't stop, I guess that's what I'll have to do (if messages are never left on the server, I don't get duplicates - I know that because I delete my mailing list messages (the ones to this address) when I first dl them, and I don't get duplicates of them. -- Jan Martel in Davis, CA G4PB 15" Al; System 10.3.8 -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
