Hi Jan. I struggled with the mm-problem after upgrading to E2004. It seems that my problem was caused by the fact that I had a couple of email-aliases for my account. I first tried to recreate the account and the aliases, but that didn't help. Then I created a new identity, created the 'main-account' and things worked like they should. I finally solved the problem by unchecking 'include this account ...' for all the aliases.
