Turning off auto-numbering in E'rage 2004?

Title: Turning off auto-numbering in E'rage 2004?

Is there a way to turn off Entourage 2004’s auto-numbering when writing an letter in HTML mode? In other words, If I type a 1. in front of a new paragraph line, and then hit return, Entourage automatically assumes I want its built-in Numbering thing, and puts a 2. on the next line.

Other than turning off  HTML email, is there a way to get Entourage to stop doing that?
