Many thanks. THIS is what this help network is all about - I followed your
step B)instructions, all is fine now and I can finally get on with work
again. Brilliant.

BTW I am already on OS 10.3.9 and have Safari 1.3 - which won't launch since
I upgraded my Office 2004 suite to version 11.0.0 - but I'll worry about
that another time.

Will also try the Repair Disk Permissions as suggested by Steve Culver -
have never done this.
