Do you intentionally have both Office X and Office 2004 on your machine? If there's no reason for X to be there any more, you should get rid of it. Why keep unnecessary files around when there's always the chance that they could corrupt or cause conflicts (like the old Font Cache apparently did). So if you don't need Office X any more, use the Remove Office tool to get rid of it. It will allow you to choose which installation(s) of Office you want to remove. The Remove Office tool is located in ~/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools. When you're finished with the removal, use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions (always a good thing to do after installing or removing software). HTH.
