Hi Mike,

If I understand you correctly, you say you bought and installed Office X,
but you're actually running Office 2004? Is this a new computer? It sounds
like the test drive version of Office 2004 was preinstalled. Otherwise I
can't see how you could have installed Office X but are running Office 2004
(which is Office 11). The version numbers you quoted are from the latter.

If this is what's happening, I suggest using the Remove Office tool (which I
believe is in the Office folder for the 2004 version) to remove the test
drive. I don't know what the test drive limit/expiration is, but there's
got to be one.

Once you remove the test drive, you'll be in Office X (10.x, not 11.x). If
you want to use Office 2004 permanently, you'll have to pay to upgrade. The
auto update feature only works for updates to the version you own; it does
not upgrade you to a newer version.

The only other possibility I can think of is that your Office X packaging
somehow contained the software for Office 2004. You can check this by
inserting the installation CD.
