Entourage 11.1.0 Mac OSX 10.3.9

Are there any known problems with Entourage and attachment file names?
Specifically attachments with non-alphanumerics in their names like
brackets, ampersands, parentheses etc...

I have encountered an issue where a user attempts to send an email with an
attachment that has a non-alphanumeric character in its name. This email
gets almost completely uploaded to the server and then hangs for several
seconds. An error message then appears saying that Entourage has lost
connection to the server but the sent email remains in the users local
outbox. Entourage then tries to send the message again a few minutes later.
The result is that the receiver ends up getting multiple copies of the same
email.

What makes it worse is that OSX automatically renames files with names like
document[1].doc. So when a user goes to attach a file it already has the
brackets in the file name.

Is this a bug in Entourage, a problem with my email server, or normal
behavior?
