We have a very similar setup here and so far I haven't had any problems accessing my account by putting in the front-end server address using the same version of Entourage and Exchange 2003 SP1. What exactly is the problem you are experiencing with your setup?

I suspect that Entourage 2004 11.1 might be attempting to communicate with a back-end server (where the mailbox is stored) using SSL. In the exchange server field, I have filled in the front-end server host address and the back-end server host address is not in any of the account setup fields. However, I believe that Entourage might have plucked the backend server host name using a DNS query at the time the account was connected to. Does anyone know if Entourage 2004 11.1 was desiged to access the server that has housed the mailbox of the user rather than go through the front end server as evidently OWA does?
