Hello
(Using OS 10.4.2, Ent. 2004, v. 11.2)
I sent this three days ago and haven’t heard from anyone. Any suggestions?
I compose my emails in Arial 14 point. The following issue applies only when I sent to someone using a PC. Sometimes when they respond, their email, plus the text from my original email, is in a much larger point size. I have written back to several of these people, showing that to them. They say the email didn’t show up in large font on their PC when they sent it. Any ideas about what’s going on? Thanks.
Richard
Richard,
I’ll tackle this one.
Since your email came in html format and you mention composing in 14 point Arial, I suspect that’s the root of the problem. What I mean by that is that there is a significant difference in the underlying html rendering engines between Macs and PCs. MacOS has a default setting of 72 dots per inch whereas Windows has a default setting of 96 dpi. What this means is that the same font size (in your case 14 point Arial) can appear to be different absolute sizes across the two types of rendering engines. Think of it as the difference between 14/72 versus 14/96.
The solution is to A) know and understand; and 2) don’t use html for email (which argument for/against can open up a whole ‘nother can of worms).
Open nets...
