An odd way of saying "I don't really believe you", or "too good to be true"?

In SP 1 and earlier, it was impossible to change anything in the "just this
instance" except the start time - and the end time changed accordingly to
keep the event duration constant. You couldn't change location, notes,
reminder, or anything else. I've never found duplicated instances. You may
be right about the exception instance becoming undeletable - I'm not sure.
(That was the only other thing you could do with a single instance - delete
it.)

In SP 2, you can change anything at all in the "just this instance":
location, subject, notes, reminder, end time, whatever. What happens is that
it becomes "separated out" or "broken off" from the recurring event as a
unique non-recurring event. If you open this instance again later, after
saving the changes, you'll see it's now "non-recurring", with the <Occurs:
Once Only> button dimmed. In custom views like "All Events", it now has its
own entry.

I haven't been using it long enough to note any untoward behavior, and I
doubt there will be any. Separating it out as a single instance should make
it simple and not prone to breaking, The recurring event also now is also
not "hiding" a weird instance, so it's unlikely you'll see any corrupt
behavior: it merely has "exceptions". Effectively, one instance has been
deleted from the recurring series, and a separate, plain non-recurring event
has been created. It should work fine. To my surprise, I see that even the
new 'calculate recurring dates for' AppleScript command gets only the
unchanged instances of the recurring event too, carefully omitting the ones
that have been removed and replaced by individual instances. To me, that
indicates that the thing is really solid - no corruption or confusion
underneath. You'll have to let us know if you find otherwise, but this looks
good to me.
