No, they use the same Dictionary. "paddler" shows as misspelled here in
Entourage too. If it wasn't showing for you, the either you must have had
either different Custom Dictionaries set up for Entourage than for Word and
had previously entered it in Entourage's, or maybe you have "Check spelling
as you type" and "Check spelling before queuing messages" both off in
Entourage prefs. 

There's only one Custom Dictionary you can set for Entourage: by default it
is set to the one at the top of your Word list (if you have more than one
there). The Custom Dictionary for Word should be set to "(none)" language,
which will work everywhere in Word, unless you need multiple languages
there.
