I finally found something hidden deep in the bowels of the Entourage MVP site (having resigned myself to a deeper page by page Google search—20 pages bay-beee!) that listed the known error messages. http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html#error-18493 (Thank you MVPs)

According to the KB 889525 article (link provided on the page not accessible from a Mac browser here at my workplace) the error has to do with the global message size limit. Not applicable in this instance. However one of the symptoms was getting a “mailbox is full” error message similar to what the customer was getting. I went back and checked the mailbox, and found that the customer had moved folders from her personal folders (On My Computer) to the Exchange folders. So she WAS indeed over her limit.

Went back and more carefully explained the difference between the two.
