I have had the pleasure of installing SP2 at a few clients now.
Usually, everything is fine.
However, at two recent installs, I still couldn't see the entire list
in the GAL.
I found this explanation:
Q: I don't seem to be able to browse the Global Address List
(GAL). I can search, but I cannot browse.
A: In order to browse the contents of the GAL (or GCL), you must be
connecting to a Windows 2003 domain controller's LDAP service.
Entourage utilizes an enhancement to Windows Server's LDAP support
known as Virtual List Views. If Entourage connects to a Windows
2000 domain controller, you will be able to search the contents of
your GAL, but not browse.
My questions to the list (esp. windows server admins) is:
Is Virtual List View a separate option?
Is it off by default?
Why would a windows admin want to turn it on? (one reason is good
enough for me)
Is there any reason not to turn this feature on?
I am obviously looking for ammunition to get this feature enabled at
sites where clients can access the ldap server, but not browse it.
