Title: Re: Retreiving data from old database after rebuilding
Dear Beth,

That’s what I exactly did in the end and it seems it worked (at least I haven’t noticed anything missing so far)...It was my concern as well that the problems might had also been restored in these backup files, but it somehow worked..Initially I was prompted to rebuild the database by an alert which was saying that entourage could not access the database and that I need to rebuild.

Anyway thank you for the clarification and I am happier now as I was not quite sure whether I did the correct thing...

By the way, is there a way of archiving data in entourage X on a regular basis?

Ciler

P.S. Before I discovered the above process, I tried “entouraid” as well. It recovered my incoming mails in my inbox but not the rest: sent emails, deleted mails, drafts, contacts, subfolders, rules, signatures, schedules, preferences etc....

Hi Ciler,

When Entourage does an Advanced Rebuild, it makes a copy of your database which it then renames.  In Entourage X there will be two files:  Old Database and Old Database Cache.  You’ll find these old database files, along with the new ones in the same location:  Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity.

To restore the old files, first quit Entourage, then drag the new database files to the desktop (to be trashed later) and then rename the old files back (delete the word “old”).  Now relaunch Entourage and all your data should be restored.  The only problem is that if you did the Advanced Rebuild because of problems with Entourage (and why else would you do it?), then you will also have restored those problems.  What was it that prompted you to do the rebuild in the first place?

Beth

I am on Entourage X (version 10.1.6). I did an Advanced Rebuild and realised that I have lost most of my e-mails, schedules, rules etc.. Could anyone please let me know how can I retreive or activate my old database?

Many Thanks,

Ciler Kirsan
