Hi,

I've searched the archives and haven't been able to find anything on the
following issues. Maybe I've been using the wrong keywords.

I have recently upgraded our Macs from Outlook 2001 to Entourage 2004
11.2.1. We are on either Panther (10.3.9) or Tiger (10.4.5).

A number of issues have arisen that weren't happening with Outlook 2001, I
understand that Entourage isn't a full MAPI client as Outlook 2001 is but
I'd like to know if there is something incorrectly configured that is
stopping us from achieving some of the functionality that we had with
Outlook 2001.

Delegate Issues
One user who is a PA to her boss has Editor delegate privileges to her
boss's calendar. In Outlook 2000 on PC, she can create entries, and also
edit and delete entries that she has created and also those her boss has
created too.

In Entourage, she can create, edit and delete her own entries, but cannot
edit or delete her boss's entries. This happens with contacts too.

The same user also has editor access to 2 generic mailboxes. She is able to
create new emails and reply to emails but not delete them. This also happens
for other users too, and the ability to delete emails is available in
Outlook 2000 on PC.

General Application Sluggishness
Users need to access a number of calendars for other staff in the
organisation. During testing I found that if you access a calendar through
the Open Other User's Folder menu command, that the calendar is cached
locally and after disconnection, accessing the calendar at a later date
causes the calendar to be cached again.

Therefore, I advised users not to disconnect from the calendars so that the
caching only occurs for new or modified items. This has caused Entourage to
be very sluggish as it seems to be constantly accessing the Exchange server
for changes to the connected calendars. Users are generally having upwards
of 10 calendars connected with a couple of users having upwards of 20. The
progress bar in the bottom right corner of the main Entourage window is
constantly working and users are having problems with even typing an email.

Is there anything I can do to stop these problems from happening? The
delegate issue is particularly problematic as they didn't occur in Outlook
2001 and the PA's boss is wanting them to revert back to it. This is a real
backwards step for me as I am in the process of eliminating the Classic
environment and have ordered 4 MacBook Pros so we won't even have Outlook
2001 as an option.

Regards,
-
