You most certainly can't. Put it on an unattached external drive, watch
things break. Put it on a network home that you can't get to, watch it
break. 

There's a legitimate valid reason for requiring certain files to be in
certain places. Now, if you could manually CHANGE that location, that would
be decent too, but having an application work when it NEVER knows where
anything it needs to work is located is ridiculous.
