One of our staff members is having problems with her Entourage in the
approximate order that they have occurred as listed below.
SPECS
- Office 11.2.3 (latest updated installed)
- G5 iMac PPC, 2GHz, 1GB RAM
- OS 10.4.5 with all updates installed
- Exchange server Windows 2003 with SP1
PROBLEM: In Entourage 11.2.3, she cannot send and receive unless she
restarts her computer but she can access her calendar and contacts. She
gets an error message that either the Exchange server does not exist or
cannot be reached, or her username or password are not being recognized.
She can send and receive email via OWA (Outlook Web Access) and Outlook
2003 on a Windows 2003 file and print server without a problem.
Arranged in order of increasing problems over time
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Started with the problem that every day when she sent some messages,
they were dropped by the server and ended up in her "out box" on her
Entourage machine ("Folders on my computer" outbox; not on the server
account). She had to resend them to get them out, but everything else
seemed to work.
- Then she rebuilt her Entourage database per my instructions. Then she
went to next stage of problems.
- Entourage not deleting messages; just piling up in her delete box.
- Entourage won't let receive or send most messages (but seems to send
some on the local network); she could pull in messages if she quit
Entourage and restarted; it gives her a message though that it does not
recognize her username or password
- An Entourage profile for her was created on a different Mac and the
same problems occurred
- In OWA and Outlook 2003 (on Windows 2003 file and print server), she
can send, receive, and delete messages; username and password recognized
- Rebuilding Entourage database cleared up some lesser problems but
created bigger problems by changing Rules for deleting messages from
Deleted Items and Junk Mail folders, and affecting her ability to send &
receive messages.
ACTIONS
--------------
I cleaned up her Exchange account through Outlook 2003 on a PC that
helped but she still has problems with her Entourage.
After copying her OS X profile to another drive, I deleted all
preferences and files relating to Entourage from her profile (except her
Office applications and MUD folder). Same problems occurred.
Reconfigured her Exchange account settings in Entourage, but same
results.
NOTE: I considered removing Office 2004 completely and reinstalling it
but only up to 11.2.1; the last update may have caused many of the
problems.
Any suggestions as to what and where to look to resolve this problem
would be greatly appreciated.
