Well, the thing about the database corruption might be true. But I'm on a imap .mac account and the sent messages are on my .mac account, so not 'on my computer'. How does the database 'on my computer' affect my imap account?
Well, it’s possible that the syncing between the local cache and the IMAP store has become corrupt. A database rebuild will certainly fix this, but it does it by wiping out the local cache for the IMAP accounts and re-downloading all the messages. There is an easier way to accomplish just this action, and that is to right-click (control-click) on the IMAP server icon in the folder list and select ‘empty cache’.
