I write a document in Microsoft Word on my Mac and email it as an attachment
to someone that has a PC with Word on their computer. The document ends up
on their computer with the extension of ".dat" without the parenthesis. When
they attempt to open the attachment, it comes out all garbled. However, if
they go to the document and change the .dat extension to a .doc extension,
it opens fine. By the way the original extension was .doc, but it got
changed while being sent. Obviously, you don't want to tell your
recepient(s) to change the extension of an attachment just because you sent
it from a Mac.
