I have just noticed that my notification sounds are missing (not working) both in Entourage 2004 (version 11.2.5 (060620)) and in Office Notifications. Both are installed on a MacBook Pro. For example, I no longer hear a sound when I have new e-mail or when an Office Notifications reminder pops up.
This may have been going on for quite some time, but I just noticed it this morning. I have only been using this MacBook for a few weeks, having transferred everything from an Aluminum PowerBook. I used the Migration Assistant instead of re-installing Office from scratch. I don’t know if that has anything to do with my problem.
I don’t seem to be having any problems with sound in any other applications
In Office Notifications I have ensured that sound is turned on in the Office Notifications Menu. In Entourage I ensured that in Preferences: Notification: Sound: Soundset that the Microsoft Sound Set was selected and all check boxes for the various sounds were checked. Clicking on the speaker icon also does nothing.
Am I missing some setting here? Has anyone else seen this?
Also, in troubleshooting this I made the (apparent) mistake of rebuilding the database using the Database Utility. This didn’t correct the sound problem. I don’t know why I thought that it would but, when I did so, I noticed that all of my Rules broke. Specifically, on rules which specify that messages which meet a certain criteria be moved to a certain location, the “move to” locations all set themselves to my in-box. Is it normal for rules to break on a re-build?
Thanks.
