It's more likely that a related preference for received mail is not set properly. Go to Entourage > Preferences, and, under "Mail & News Preferences", click "View". Check the option to "Show attached pictures and movies in messages", and click OK. Then, at least in Entourage, the first page of attached PDFs should show up at the bottom of the message in simple HTML or plain text received messages.
