When I moved from OS 9 to OS X, OS X read my removable media that had last
been accessed in OS 9 as being filled with Unix Executable files rather than
the actual files. But, I've not had old-style Excel icons before.

It's a legit file, whether or not it's an Excel file:
<http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:ageCIcoWPpwJ:www.markzwareusa.com/forum
/index.php%3FPHPSESSID%3D7c0f46c549fb5b76d14b2d2abccbc1de%26topic%3D90.msg71
9+com.markzware.FC5.FontDBWtSys&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1> mentions the file
as it relates to the FlightCheck app.

Regardless, it's the file that wonked me for better than three weeks;
getting rid of it has made my H possible again. Perhaps the misattributed
icon had something to do with why it messed with my H in Entourage; perhaps
whatever bit of corruption that it suffered related both the icon and the
fact that it was a Microsoft app that was affected by it. I don't know, I
can't answer; I can only tell you what it looked like and what it said it
was. :-)

Thanks again, everyone!!
