When a message is open, choose View menu > Internet Headers.

You can read through the headers, some of which are human readable, to
determine some kinds of problems.

In this case, some of the date information is stamped by the sender's mail
client. Other date information is stamped by the intermediate mail servers.
The mail servers are _probably_ more likely to have accurate dates, partly
because mail servers tend to have a sys admin (or team of them) setting them
up and monitoring them.
