I have been checking out http://www.plaxo.com which can sync your iCal and Address Book with their server. You can make changes by logging in to the site from anywhere and when you get home just re-sync with Plaxo. It's free, but doesn't sync with Exchange servers/Outlook.
However they have found some software that runs on Windows that can do this synching- there's a link on the Plaxo site. I'm not sure if it works out any cheaper this way.
