The brackets in your example are backwards -- they are < and > before and
after, rather than > <. The < > brackets are an internet protocol that
*most* mail readers interpret as "do not break what's between these, it's a
link, so please keep it clickable even if it breaks across lines" -- some of
course do not play well with others, and breaks those links anyway (Yahoo
groups comes to mind as one that takes liberties and mungs long URLs).
