Entourage connects to my IMAP server and refreshes correctly when I do a
manually triggered mail check, using menu or keyboard command. But if I
enable the Live Sync option, I do not reliably get "pushed" notifications.

Sometimes it works. The Progress window expands momentarily, indicating a
server connection. I get a notification alert sound. The INBOX unread
message count is incremented. But note that the alert sound is the only
notification mechanism that works for me.

Sometimes the Progress window expands and contracts, but there is no alert
sound. The INBOX message count does not change.

Sometimes nothing happens, and I do not know that a new message has arrived
until I do a manually triggered check.

I am testing this by sending messages to my U of Washington IMAP account
from my Earthlink (formerly Mindspring) account. I ran a verification on my
DB. I did a "Repair Message List" on my INBOX folder. I tested on two
different Macs. Here are the details:

Entourage 2004 version 11.3.6 (all updates)
Live Sync = on
Only Connect to Inbox = on
Send commands to server simultaneously = on
Always download complete message bodies = on
Other IMAP options = off
Mac Pro running 10.4.10, OS X firewall = on
MacBook Pro running 10.5, OS X firewall = "specific services", Ent enabled
Server: UW-IMAP4REV1 IDLE UIDPLUS

Both of these computers are connected to the net via home ethernet LAN >
switch > Airport Extreme > DSL. Does Live Sync work through a NAT router?
