Rebuilding looked scarrry, so the experimental solution I applied to the
"stuck message" problem was to forward all the messages I wanted to keep -
delete the account I was using - and then re-install the account settings.

To my surprise, the ambivalent messages (the ones still left when I deleted
the account) returned when I re-installed the account, but minus the "stuck
message".
