I had high hopes for the latest version of Entourage (2008 version 12.0.1).

Unfortunately, I experienced the same problems with this version as I have with every previous version of the software going back to the first release. For some reason I do not understand I just cannot get Entourage to reliably connect to the IMAP servers our company uses. This has held true no matter what version of the software, or what version of the operating system, and even held true when our company changed IMAP servers.

I will repeatedly get messages that rules fail because Entourage cannot locate a mailbox on the server. I will repeatedly have to repair message lists to be able to accurately tell what has been read or unread. Sometimes I will get a spinning beach ball after deleting a message followed by multiple messages (other than the one I selected) disappearing from the message list and not be able to get those messages back using a refresh message list. Yet, if I go check with another e-mail client those messages are still on the server and if I check the server using Web access those mistakenly "deleted" messages are still there.

To be extra thorough I have also used Outlook 2003 under XP SP2, Outlook 2007 under Vista Ultimate (both with and without the SP for Vista), Thunderbird under Vista, and lastly Evolution under the Fedora 8 Linux distribution. Entourage is the *only* e-mail client that has problems with the IMAP servers I need to connect to.

Entourage does have some features that would make my life much simpler. Yet I simply cannot use an e-mail client that does not give me a reliable access to our servers. So it's back to Apple's Mail program. I have never had any problem using our IMAP servers using Apple's Mail program. (It's free, it works, and it has multiple capabilities I need that are missing in Thunderbird.)

When I contacted tech support for Entourage they could not offer a solution, but did say that I should give Microsoft feedback using this page:
